Department Focus

A comprehensive language arts program contains strong literature, language and comprehension activities that integrate reading, writing, listening, and speaking. These opportunities encourage students to develop the capacity to think critically and to delight in the power and beauty of language. It is based on an articulated sequence of skills that includes conventions, spelling, writing skills, and basic comprehension strategies. There is an organized plan to support students who need extra help, students who require an extra challenge, and students who are acquiring English.
