Throughout the year we will be studying life science using a variety of activities such as, but not limited to, labs, projects and activities, diagrams, models, Cornell notes, videos, study skills, thinking maps, etc. We will be following the California State Standards for Life Science. Topics include, but are not limited to, The Metric System, Characteristics of Living Things, Plant and Animal Cells, Cell Division, Heredity/Genetics, Darwin's Theory and Evolution/Geologic Time, and Plant Reproduction.

 With cold/flu and allergy season upon us,I have so appreciated all the Kleenex donations as well as the school supplies from the cards on my door at back to school night! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!  I am now good for Kleenex but am on my last container of Anti Bacterial Wipes for the students to clean their desks and counters with. I will give 3 gold cards for one container of wipes up to 2 Containers/6 Gold Cards per student. Lysol or Clorox are well known brands but the store brands are good too. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP (-: !!

Homework for Tues. 3/20 due Thurs. 3/22

*Please look up the definitions for the next 5 words after Biotic and fill the definitions in on your vocabulary sheet located on the inside cover of your folder. 
*Please use an online dictionary like Dictionary .com or the British version is fine too. If you have a Webster's or similar Book dictionary at home you may use that as well. I have been using Dictionary .com.
*BE SURE to be adding images (draw picture(s) and color them in the 2nd box on the right. you can also add labels, like a list of examples, above or below your pics in the box. They must have some color to get a stamp! PLEASE DO NOT color with Highlighters!
 

Homework for the weekend of March 16-18th

Hello :D!!
Well...... There is NO HOMEWORK FOR ANY STUDENTS WHO HAVE COMPLETED ALL ASSIGNMENTS FOR THE LAST 2 WEEKS! However if your student has missing work they wish to complete for late credit they have some homework they could do this weekend (;
Some assignments that can still be turned in for late credit:
1.Water Poster until 3/31 for full credit, late after that date. (worth 25% in grade category)
2. The  "WHY IS WATER A SCARCE AND VALUABLE RESOURCE AND HOW CAN TEENS HELP CONSERVE WATER" FLIPGRID VIDEO PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT. Is late now but late credit is available until 3/23. ( is worth 35% in grade category)
 
3. If you were absent for Photosynthesis Folder stamping and grading then come in at lunch and lets stamp and grade it- due by 3/23 for credit.
 
4. pg 1.  Nitrogen cycle Annotated article and Blue Partner A/B worksheet
5. First 3 Vocabulary words in new Ecology Folder with colored pictures in right hand box.
6. pg 2. How do parts come together to make a whole paper and activity and TEDed "Making sense of how life works together" Video Notes (on pg 2) 
7. The first 2 "my understandings" on the yellow learning log located in the BACK of the folder 
8. FOR BONUS STAMPS: WATCH THE HONORS Nitrogen Cycle video on my website and then go back and label the article on page 1's diagram of the nitrogen cycle with the correct form (molecular name and formula required) that free nitrogen changes into as it gets "FIXED", WHO is fixing it (changing it) then is assimilated,(who assimilates it)  and then how it gets converted back into free nitrogen so the cycle continues (:!!

You are taking notes on page 2 of your new Ecology folder. Please pause it and write down notes and an example from EACH OF THE LEVELS OF ORGANIZATION! Be Sure you are SEEING AND UNDERSTANDING how all of the PARTS working together build and support ONE LIVING ORGANISM :D!!! 
That's the BIG WOW factor its going for Y'all!

Yay! :) New Folder! Title and directions for the cover:

1.  the title is ECOLOGY
2. The THEME for the COVER ART is:
 "The relationship between the Abiotic (non-living) factors and the Biotic (living) factors in A HABITAT (smaller ecosystem)"  
You will need to research and choose a habitat of your choice to draw on the cover. (you may choose 2 contrasting habitats as well if you want to- example: an ocean habitat and a desert habitat) You must include: Animals and plants (includes trees that have died and fallen over) (Biotic factors) that live in that habitat and show them interacting or using the 
Abiotic (non-living factors) in their habitat. You can draw it, or find pictures of the plants, animals and rocks, dirt, water, air, temperature, etc and make a collage of the habitat.
