Throughout the year we will be studying life science using a variety of activities such as, but not limited to, labs, projects and activities, diagrams, models, Cornell notes, videos, study skills, thinking maps, etc. We will be following the California State Standards for Life Science. Topics include, but are not limited to, The Metric System, Characteristics of Living Things, Plant and Animal Cells, Cell Division, Heredity/Genetics, Darwin's Theory and Evolution/Geologic Time, and Plant Reproduction.

 With cold/flu and allergy season upon us,I have so appreciated all the Kleenex donations as well as the school supplies from the cards on my door at back to school night! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!  I am now good for Kleenex but am on my last container of Anti Bacterial Wipes for the students to clean their desks and counters with. I will give 3 gold cards for one container of wipes up to 2 Containers/6 Gold Cards per student. Lysol or Clorox are well known brands but the store brands are good too. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP (-: !!

Assigned Today: 8th Gr. Physics Project: Newton's 3 Laws of Motion Due Friday 9/28

Students have a list of types of projects they can choose from and they may work by themselves or in pairs or triads. The Poster/Trifold Project must be accompanied by an oral presentation of the project to their class, the other projects (movies, news report, song, anything filmed will be shown to the whole class for review of the 3 laws.
ALL PROJECTS ARE DUE FOR PRESENTING IN CLASS ON FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 28TH!!!!

Please use these to review and refresh your memory on what we have covered in class the last 2 days.
 

8th Grade Homework on Thursday 8/30

Both periods 5 and 6 need to complete the rest of Annotating correctly the article "AIR-DROPPING FOOD" and USE YOUR TECHNICAL WRITING TOOLS COLORCODED HANDOUT to help you know what to write where and what to highlight in which color in the article. Due tomorrow at the beginning of each class.
****Note: if your student has not yet gotten the five colors of highlighters we will use almost daily throughout the year, they may borrow highlighters in class until they can get the set of Blue, Orange, Green, Pink and Yellow:)!

7th Grade Homework for Thursday 8/30:
those students who did not complete Building Code (BC) #1 and #2 will need to complete them tonight for HW, due tomorrow. The BLACK phrases are to focus your thinking for that BC, students are to copy the RED Sentence Starter onto their notecard and complete it with a detailed explanation of HOW they would construct the house frame and what shape buildings withstand an earthquake better than other shapes without tipping over and falling apart. 
Period 4 students homework is to log onto the earthquake simulation ( the url is: https://tinyurl.com/k8z42wband READ ALL OF EACH TEXT BOX, on the earthquake homepage and activities 5,6,7,  then run the simulations to see WHY you might want to anchor a building to the slab or bedrock  and WHAT or how does this improve the EQ safety of the building. THEN CRAFT YOUR BUILDING CODE #3 on your index cards!!  
Use this Earthquake Strength Richter Scale to guess the Richter number of the earthquake videos SHOWN IN CLASS !!
On your Handout Part B at the bottom: Fill in a description of what you saw happening in each cities video clip of their earthquake and then Guess the Richter strength number and write it in the box!

Biodiversity Hotspot Slide Show Invasive Species Flipgrid PSA Project

In class Tuesday you and your partner will choose an invasive plant or animal to research and develop an PSA to inform others about it . What are the negative impacts it makes on its habitat/ecosystem/ food web and how might we get rid of it?  I have posted the Slide Show that goes with this project on my web site which contains MULTIPLE excellent research links/sites and videos to watch about some great examples of invasive species and their negative impact and methods of eradicating it from our native areas. Please read and watch ONLY through SLIDE NUMBER 31!!! Thanks! FLIPGRIDS are DUE by FRIDAY June 1 @ 11:59PM. They will be accepted LATE through MONDAY June 4th by 3:00PM. This is a great opportunity to lock in your grade or, if your grade needs improving, a super way to bring up your Final Sem.2 Grade :D !!
