English Learner students constitute approximately 25% of the student enrollment, and come from many different countries. The California English Language Development Test (CELDT) is used to assess English language acquisition. Students scoring at Levels 1, 2, and 3 participate in a self-contained beginning English class with specialized services in math, social studies, and science. Students who achieve levels 4 and 5 are considered, “Transitional”, and participate in core classrooms where authorized teachers present curriculum, using Specially Designed Academic Instruction (SDAIE). All English Learner students are mainstreamed for PE and other electives. Student progress is monitored regularly.
