English Language Arts 8 (Period 6) Assignments

This is an extra credit assignment and must be fully completed to earn extra credit. You can turn this in anytime during the next 3 weeks.

Attached is the final assignment for The Outsiders.  Please download, complete and email to me.  

 

If you have not completed previous assignments, you can still complete them.

 

There is an extra-credit assignment that I have already posted,  and I plan to make it worth your time.  Many of you are close to the next higher grade; many of you are close to an A+. Under these challenging circumstances, I appreciate you sticking with this novel, seeing through the assignments, and I would like to give your grade that final push higher.

 

I would like to finalize our semester grades on Wednesday, May 27.

I have posted grades on Aeries.  If you see an "N/A" that means I did not receive an assignment from you.  It's ok to send past assignments to me anytime during the next 3 weeks.

 

There will be one more assignment for the final chapters of this novel, and you will have 2 weeks to complete it.

 

This Friday, I will post an extra-credit assignment for those who would like to give their final grades a push.  

 

Hope you are out there, healthy and happy as we can be living in isolation.  All is well here.

For the remainder of our school year, all lessons will be based on The Outsiders. In planning this unit, I decided to break it into 3 sections, with each section taking 2 weeks to complete. Read the novel when you like, and I will post a new assignment on Monday, April 27 and on Monday, May 11.  Time management for all of us is challenging as we figure out how to work completely online. With having these chapters grouped, I hope it will be more manageable for you instead of weekly lessons to turn in.   I hope you will love this novel as much as I do!  

 

I am grading everyday, and can't seem to catch up with all of you.  Be patient with me!  I am taking my time reading your narratives based on heritage and enjoying all of them.  I will move on shortly to your work from chapter one of this novel.  Email me anytime with questions and comments.

 

As you have done before, download the attachment, complete, and email it to me.  If you would rather simply start a new document and number your answers 1 - 4, that works just as well.

 

Hope you are all making the best of this crazy time. I feel so badly for all of you because I know how much you must miss your friends, Alvarado, and all of the good we fit into our days at school.  Hang in there!

For the remainder of the school year, we will work through the novel, The Outsiders.  I have attached a pdf of the entire novel, or you can purchase it on line for about $10 if you prefer to work with the actual book.  During the first few chapters, we will work with elements of the plot and character development.

 

Attached: the novel;  questions for chapter one for you to download, complete, and email back to me; and a powerpoint of the life and times in which this novel takes place.  The photograph you will see is from a 60's day we had at Alvarado several years ago.  (The powerpoint is just for interest) 

 

Assignments will be posted on Mondays, and I will read, respond, keep a list of grades on paper.  Every weekday I will be reading your work, so please continue to email me with all questions.

I have received countless emails regarding problems with the assignments I assigned online with myPerspectives.  Fourteen of you have begun these assignments, and it appears that you have had not problems doing so.

 

I don't know how to answer many of your questions about these assignments without seeing your view of this website.

 

With that in mind, let's postpone these assignments around the short story "The Medicine Bag."  If we do go into well into April working online, I will clearly get more lessons to you. 

 

In the spring, we were going to write one more narrative, and we have not written an expository essay.  I will focus on writing, and please share these with me through email.  That mode works well for everyone.

 

Please read "The Medicine Bag" either on myPerspectives, online, and Youtube has versions of it.  After 1:00 this afternoon, I will attach complete directions for this narrative.  Let's hope this works for all of us.

 

This is a very stressful time for all of us.  We miss a lot about our daily routines at Alvarado, and I want to keep the integrity of your commitment to school work as my focus.  Check this page after 1:00.

If you would rather not deal with myPerspectives online, open the attachment, complete the lesson, write the narrative on a google doc, and share both finished products with me.  This process we know well.
