7th Grade Science Period 4 Assignments

Finish reading and completing the questions for "The World of Food Chains with Max Axiom Super Scientist" if you did not finish in class. You can find the link to this on my school web page. If you do not have a computer you should have taken home a copy in class. This assignment should be written on pages 4 (and possibly 5) in your science notebook.

Read and annotate the article "Nonliving Parts of Ecosystems and complete the back page if you did not complete it during class. Remember that you must box key vocabulary, underline or highlight main ideas, and write a one sentence summary for every two paragraphs. You must also complete the homework worksheet "Parts of an Ecosystem." You may answer on the back, using complete sentences, or attach a separate sheet of paper. It must be stapled to the worksheet. Both are due tomorrow.

 

Answer the questions at the bottom of the producers, consumers, and decomposers readings. You may write on the back page or on a separate sheet of notebook paper if you cannot fit your responses. Due on Wednesday, 3/15.

Complete the "Finding the Carbon and Nitrogen Cycles at Alvarado Intermediate School" worksheet. It is on the back of the worksheet "Is Our Schoolyard an Ecosystem?"  Using some of the information about abiotic and biotic things on campus, find evidence that the carbon cycle and nitrogen cycle are taking place here at Alvarado.  For example, trees are taking in carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen into the atmosphere. Dead leaves from the trees are decomposing, releasing carbon to the soil. Etc. Use the diagrams on your worksheet to help your identification of the cycles.

 

This assignment is due tomorrow.

must read Pages 118-122 in your CPO textbook and answer the Section Review questions (1-9) on page 123 on a separate piece of paper.

 

Students who completed the program DO NOT have to do this assignment.

Complete today's class activity by answering all of the questions from the lab IF you did not complete it in class today. Use complete sentences!

Complete the left hand column of the page answering the questions in the middle. There is a word bank for your use and each word may be used more than once. Please note that ATP energy is the same as "usable chemical energy" and change it to that phrase. This assignment is due tomorrow, Tuesday, 2/28.

Science Notebooks are due for all classes!! You should have 12 pages.

Finish problems 9-12 on the green handout sheet. This should complete the sheet. Due on Thursday 2/9.

Read and annotate the article "What are climate and climate change?" and answer the questions on the back.

The Wise program that we have been working on in class is due to be completed by Wednesday, March 1st. We have had 5 days to work on this in class and now it is up to you to finish this if you did not complete it in class. You can log in on any device using the website wise.berkely.edu. If this program is not finished I will give you additional assignments to complete this week to make sure you have all the important information. There will be a test on Friday 12/9 covering the information in your Unit 5 notebook. The test will be computer based. You can use the information in your notebook to study. Be prepared to ask questions about anything you don't understand in class on Thursday.

Answer the 3 analysis questions on the bottom of the Physical and Chemical Changes sheet (green, on pg 13 in notebook). Include a 2-3 sentence "conclusion" about what you learned. You should be able to write this under the worksheet (on the notebook paper). Due tomorrow in class.

Complete Section B on the back of the conservation of mass lab. Use the sentence stems to write your reasoning paragraph.

Complete physical and chemical properties worksheet. Due tomorrow. Also finish annotating today's reading if you did not finish in class.

Complete the green half-sheet homework marked Assignment #2. Due tomorrow.

Complete the reading about carbon dioxide, answer the questions at the end, and complete your annotations. The list of required annotations is attached.

Complete the back page of the "How to Count Atoms" worksheet (blue paper).

Complete the worksheet you received today if not completed in class. Side 1: write the name of the element and highlight the electrons in the OUTER SHELL. Side 2: Fill in the missing information. Both assignments are due on Monday, 10/24.

Write a reflection about the Atoms Using iPads activity. It must include the following vocabulary which must also be highlighted or underlined in your reflection:

Lightbulb #2 on page 3 of your science notebook is due on Friday, September 30. You may use the levels of organization triangle as your illustration, but you must also explain it in words. You can find this information on pages 33 and 34 in your textbook or on other pages of your notebook. Remember to add color.

Lightbulb #1 on page 2 of your science notebook is due tomorrow. You are to pick an animal alive today and tell how it meets the 5 criteria of life (page 28 in your textbook). Your answer must include both text and an illustration or diagram (they can be printed) and you must also have color on the page. This assignment is due tomorrow.

The cut and paste assignment as well as Level Guide 2 that you worked on  in class (will do on Thursday) is due on Friday, 9/23. Also due is the Levels of Organization Project you worked on in class on both Monday and Tuesday.

To recap that project: the information you need is in your notebook or in you CPO textbook on pages 33 and 34. Honors students must do the front page of a newspaper. The newspaper must have a name and contain a minimum of one illustration and one article (the article) must have a title. My other students may also do that newspaper but also have the choice of doing a cartoon with a minimum of six cells (boxes). One box must contain a title, your name, and the period. Both projects must explain the 5 levels of organization:

1. Cells are the basic unit of a living system.

2. Groups of cells performing similar functions make up tissues.

3. Groups of tissues performing similar functions make up organs.

4. Groups of organs performing similar functions make up organ systems.

5. Groups of organ systems performing similar functions make up organisms which are independently functioning living things.

Complete the analysis questions that went with the levels of organization triangle that we created in class.

2. How does your egg relate to your bug?

3. Look at the sample graphs and make a prediction how the egg's mass will change during the investigation. (the egg in corn syrup and the egg in water).
