Complete the "Finding the Carbon and Nitrogen Cycles at Alvarado Intermediate School" worksheet. It is on the back of the worksheet "Is Our Schoolyard an Ecosystem?" Using some of the information about abiotic and biotic things on campus, find evidence that the carbon cycle and nitrogen cycle are taking place here at Alvarado. For example, trees are taking in carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen into the atmosphere. Dead leaves from the trees are decomposing, releasing carbon to the soil. Etc. Use the diagrams on your worksheet to help your identification of the cycles.

The cut and paste assignment as well as Level Guide 2 that you worked on in class (will do on Thursday) is due on Friday, 9/23. Also due is the Levels of Organization Project you worked on in class on both Monday and Tuesday.
To recap that project: the information you need is in your notebook or in you CPO textbook on pages 33 and 34. Honors students must do the front page of a newspaper. The newspaper must have a name and contain a minimum of one illustration and one article (the article) must have a title. My other students may also do that newspaper but also have the choice of doing a cartoon with a minimum of six cells (boxes). One box must contain a title, your name, and the period. Both projects must explain the 5 levels of organization:
1. Cells are the basic unit of a living system.
2. Groups of cells performing similar functions make up tissues.
3. Groups of tissues performing similar functions make up organs.
4. Groups of organs performing similar functions make up organ systems.
5. Groups of organ systems performing similar functions make up organisms which are independently functioning living things.
