7th Grade Science (Period E) Assignments

HOMEWORK due Friday is the same as yesterday- complete the Ch 2 word bank with mandatory colored pictures. Also complete all pictures in your Characteristics of Living Things power point from Monday.

Monday homework due Friday the 7th is to complete the 12 vocabulary terms from Chapter 2 on the wordbank worksheet. Be sure to highlight your frames on the worksheet and to FIND A FACT OR EXAMPLE FROM THE PARAGRAPH IN THE BOOK to add to the extra fact/example box- DO NOT make up a sentence!!!! Pictures MUST be colored with colored pencil for full credit!!

Oct. 26-27

Wed. 10/23 homework is to complete the blue graphing worksheet which the final assignment of the topic of graphing skills, I will be collecting it tomorrow. We finished a detailed PowerPoint in class today and your student has notes from this lesson they can use as well as section 1.3 in the textbook.

The homework for tonight, Tues. 10/22 is to fix your graph on the last page of the 1.3 level guide that we graded the true/false portion of today in class. ALSO- for those students who turned in the No Homework slip because they did not do the 1.3 section review questions 1-6  HOT DOG style on pg 21 of the textbook last night still need to complete that assignment for tomorrow. (After turning in their completed Qtr. 1 Science folder and score sheet, most students had time yesterday to get started on the section review questions in class and in periods B,C,D, and E I handed out a sheet of graph paper for each student to graph question 5 on which they took home)

The homework DUE Monday Oct. 21st is really to complete the classwork handout students were given to work on in class today if they were not quite able to finish it. It is titled Scientific Method and the are to highlight the sentences according to the color code instructions they were to copy onto their paper from the screen.

The Homework for Thursday night is to complete the Ch. 1.3 Level Guide worksheets- including the graph. pgs 18 and 19 have the steps of how to build a graph and label all of its components. Remember that the Independent variable is the one YOU (I) picked to test and the Dependent variable is the data/measurements you collect during the experiment and depends on the independent variable.

Our Big review for the checkpoint test on Wed. is underway! The homework tonight is 2 different worksheets that are BOTH DUE TOMORROW: 

As a reminder the work due today was the Triple Beam Balance worksheet and the Section 1.2 Section Review Questions 1-4 on page 16 of text book- hot dog style, these are being stamped today and if you did not do it over the weekend you can still do it and turn it tomorrow or Wednesday the 16th, but not after that.

Thursday night homework is to continue to play some of the ReviewGameZone.com games, and complete the blue Brain Pop Video Worksheet, and complete the Questions at the top of the reviewgamezone.com white worksheet and finish the back of it which is practice reading the meniscus of the water in the graduated cylinders side. Due Friday 10/11

On Monday students received a white packet titled Problem Example and inside is Experimental Design. Last night they were to highlight the front page BOLD face type sentences yellow and the title blue and do questions A, B, and C only using example #2 to answer the questions. Tonight they are to do questions D and E. I have explained the sample on the front page and how to google the 2 choices for the experiments on the last page before they choose which one they want to design a controlled experiment of. They are to complete the worksheet fully so that it contains all of the parts that the sample on the front page does. It should look like the sample but contain their own experiment and variables and procedures to find the answer to the question they chose ( A or B). This assignment is due on Thursday 10/10.

Wed. night Homework is to complete the 2nd page of the pink handouts both the front and the back. Due Thurs. 10/10. Also due on Thursday is the Experimental design worksheets where students chose to create an experiment for the 2 choices: A) Pacific Ocean water won't freeze in the home freezer, or B) Ants are attacking the hummingbird feeder- how can we stop this?  A full example of the correct format is attached to the front of the worksheet and highlighted yellow. 

Tuesday night's Homework is to complete the FRONT page ( do the front and back of this page!) of the pink worksheet titled "Performing Experiments". Due tomorrow for a completed homework stamp in class. 

The homework for Thursday night is to complete the last 2 Quizlet games for the scientific method deck. The completed Quizlet worksheet is due on Monday Oct. 7th before the vocabulary Quiz. Game 4 Scatter: you must get a lower time each time you play for 3 games, and Game 5 Test: try for for 82% or better, Honors class try for 90% or better. Get each game signed off on to receive full credit!

The weekend homework is to complete the averages for your marble launcher data. All periods except E are to then graph the averaged #'s and use colored pencil and a ruler to connect their data points. Please answer lab questions c-g using the graph and complete sentences. This is Due Monday.
Also bring your completed and signed Quizlet worksheet as it is due on Monday. The vocabulary test is on Monday! Please be prepared.
Some students did not turn in their mini project Steps of the Scientific Method Booklet for full credit today. I will accept them on Monday for Late Credit (10% off their grade for being late) but not after Monday.

I have assigned as of Monday 9/30 a Mini Project titled The Steps of the Scientific Method Booklet.

Monday night homework is to complete The learn game, game #3 on the Quizlet scientific method deck. They are to try and get 82% or higher and then get it initialed by parent/guardian. Due by Wednesday October 2nd. Today I stamped completed Quizlet games 1&2. Please remember that if you have internet problems the students have access to our school computer lab during nutrition, and lunch M-F, and for an hour after school M-T. I assign the games in small chunks so they can go in and get it done here at school if necessary.
Today we started a Scientific Method Booklet. We will work more on it in class tomorrow, tonight they need to be thinking of a simple but interesting experiment they can use as the basis of their cartoon comic which will reflect their command of what is required for a scientist to do and keep track of at each of the six steps of the scientific method. Due date is Friday October 4th. Please read the detailed instructions on the blue handout. It will be graded as a mini project and will go in the project part of their grade (25%). Students have been shown 2 samples in class. They may use the textbook, handouts, lecture notes or 7th grade level science web site to assist them. Please be neat, accurate and colorful!!!

Tuesday nights homework is to complete the FIRST page ONLY (front and back!) of the packet Problem and Hypothesis. It is due Tomorrow Wednesday 10/2.

Thursday nights homework is to complete THE FRONT ONLY of the coleus plant worksheet. Match each numbered statement to the correct step of the scientific method listed in a-i below. Remember some steps will have more than one number and some will only have one. Use each step only one time. Is due tomorrow- Friday 9/27.

Tuesday night Homework: complete the Level Guide 1.2 worksheet. Remember to correct any statements that are false by crossing out the incorrect words and adding the correct ones to the statement. Due Wed. 9/25. DINO LAB GRAPHS due Thursday 9/26

Test on Metrics and Measurement is Monday the 23rd!!!
Please study your handouts and do your Graduated Cylinder practice worksheet.
Also I would, on Sunday night, play the Quizlet games: Learn game and the Test game, so the material is fresh in your mind for Monday.
In addition, I would organize your science folder! PUT ALL PAPERS IN DATE ORDER-oldest on the top, newer underneath!! Put your scantron test in date order in there as well.

Tonight's homework is to complete the Quizlet assignment! All games 1-5 should be completed and signed off on, and will be stamped for completeness tomorrow in class. The worksheet is due Monday on test day. Friday's homework will be a volume worksheet to practice reading the meniscus of different graduated cylinders. This skill is included on the test.

The homework for tonight for PERIODS A,C,D,E is to complete the Quizlet games 1 Memorize, 2 Tally Marks, and 3 Learn quiz on the Quizlet website, which is accessed through my Teacher Website. The students have a blue paper with sections for each game that needs to be filled out for each game and then initialed/signed by their parent/guardian to receive full credit. Remember to try and reach the goals we set ( miss no more than 10 cards in game 2, and get 80% or higher on the learn quiz). If your paper gets messy- you can always print out another one from my home page- documents are located UNDER the gold box on the right side. 

I collected the pink Length Lab today. Students were to finish up measuring the lines on the back side last night if they did not finish it in class Friday, or over the weekend. We will continue to practice length measurement as part of our growing dinosaurs lab we are currently conducting in class. We are still practicing using the triple beam balance scale to measure mass and will learn to read the meniscus of a graduated cylinder. 

Weekend homework is to complete the 1.1 Section review questions 1-4 on pg 10 in the textbook. It MUST be in Hotdog Style Format!!!! Do not forget to highlight the questions orange, the answers yellow and the title blue! Write the ENTIRE question! skip lines between the questions! Remember no format = no credit! On PINK LENGTH MEASUREMENT LAB: if you want to do the penny, measure that- if you have time and want to measure the lines on the back of the lab sheet please feel free to do them all (-:. 

Students in periods A, C, and D need to complete all of the 2 page review packet that has a Root word dinosaur crossword on the front. B and E Period are to do all of the 2nd page-both sides, and then try to do as much of crossword as they can.  Due tomorrow Friday 9/13

The Homework for Tuesday was to complete the Blue Metrics Conversion practice and Length measurements worksheet for a completed homework stamp on Wednesday. If it is incomplete students are allowed to complete it Wednesday night for grading in class on Thursday for a HW score- which is separate score from the stamp points. PLEASE REMEMBER TO LOOK AT BOTH SIDES OF HANDOUTS AND WORKSHEETS YOU RECEIVE IN CLASS!! THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME THERE IS SOMETHING TO COMPLETE ON BOTH SIDES!!
Also please remember to be putting ALL of your papers in date order- OLDEST on the top- newer underneath- IN YOUR SCIENCE FOLDER. It is 20% of your grade in my class.

There is no newly assigned homework for the 3 day break. If you have not completed your level guide for 1.1 PLEASE finish it! If you want to color your fish poster you can. Remember you may not receive an A grade if you do not color the background blue or like the ocean. Fish poster and materials to be checked in for points on WED Sept. 4th.

THE LAB SAFETY QUIZ WILL BE GIVEN ON MONDAY THE 26TH!!
We finished/checked and added to the Thursday safety cartoon worksheet in the beginning of class then graded it as part of our safety test review. We Then started another worksheet which is SpongeBob Lab safety. This is their test review for the Lab Safety QUIZ which is on Monday August 26th. The students are to finish the review if they did not quite get it done in class and Sunday night review all lab safety handouts they have in their Science Folder. They should also think back to the safety video we saw on Thursday and mentally review those scenarios- they have some video notes from it in their folders. Please come to class ready to take the Quiz!

Today we went over the Lab Safety Skills for class as well as location of safety equipment in the classroom, and how to exit class and where to meet on the blacktop for fire drills and disaster drills. The home work is to get the Lab Safety Contract signed by the student and the parent/guardian and return to class by Friday, Aug. 23.

Have your Parent/Guardian read both sides of the Guidelines and Expectations and SIGN THE PINK CONTRACT ( PRINT FIRST, THEN SIGNATURE) then if you (the studetn) did not print and sigh during class, do that now. It is DUE THURSDAY AUG. 22.
