Assignment
Finish today's classwork: Make a flee map about "The Smallest Dragonboy". You will need an introduction, 3 (or more) body paragraphs, and a conclusion. In the introduction, you need the following: 1. a hook (question, quote, startling statement, etc.) 2. mention the title of the story and the author 3. a short 2-3 sentence summary of the whole story 4. your thesis statement (one statement that addresses what your essay is about). Each of your 3 rectangles should be filled in with one of the character traits that you chose for your character wheel. If one of the traits is about a physical trait (small, young) you will need to change it to a personality trait. Below each rectangle should be the 3 or more supporting details from the story to give examples of how Keevan had that trait. Finally, the conclusion sums up the essay and explains how the story's theme can apply to our lives. Explain why it is important. Make sure that you ask for help in class and at home. We will be working on this response to literature essay in class each day. It is your ongoing work this week. The final essay is due on Friday.

Assignment
On Monday 9/27, we will meet in the computer lab. Unless you already turned it in to me, you need to bring the following stapled together in this order, top to bottom: 1. Rough draft of "A Special Day" essay 2. Flee map 3. Circle map 4. Writing prompt (1/2 sheet). This is a shortened day, so it is really important that you have your paper so you can spend the time typing. If you were absent or lost it, here is the prompt:
A Special Day
Think about a special day in your life, a day when something unusual or memorable happened. It might have been the first day of school, your birthday, or some other day.
Write your story telling what happened to you on that day and describe why it was special.
As you write your story, think about these questions:
*did you write a story about the assigned topic?
*did you use details to describe the characters, places, and events?
*did you organize your story clearly with a beginning, middle and end?
*did you use a variety of words and well-written sentences/
*did you use correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation?
We will have a grammar/reading quiz on Tuesday. This will cover information about sentence types, sentences vs. fragments, and the two stories, Duffy's Jacket, and Yeti-Like Monster..
